It’s my first MerMay! I was so nervous to do a 31 day challenge with a busy schedule, but now that it’s over, I’m pretty surprised with the results. Still wish I could have drawn every day, but I’m satisfied with 10/31.
Shortly after Tom Bancroft posted the prompts for this year, I started planning. I knew that I wanted to draw some of my favorite characters as mermaids and because I had a feeling that drawing everyday wouldn’t always be an option (very true), I took that prompt list and attached a character to each and every one. With this setup, all I had to do was get out my iPad and look at what that day’s prompt+character combo would be.
I tried a few new things out with the Adobe Sketch app and learned how to work with their watercolor tool. As great as it is, I still wanted to stop and just go pickup a real paintbrush.
These are my results:
My absolute favorite ended up being the very first one: Gamora. And the only one I was very bummed to never finish was Ripley and Jonesy. I thought it was a good idea, but my artistic skills seemed to disappear every time I attempted to work on it. Maybe next year.
